By Frank Dix October 30, 2021
Raptor View Wildlife Estate is a well-known and much loved private reserve in Hoedspruit, Limpopo. It offers something for everyone, from the very young to the very old! Located in Hoedspruit, near Kruger Park. It offers 300 stands over 1 000 hectares. Around 200 homes have been built to date. Raptors view is one of the most well-established wildlife estates in SA – it has been going since 2000. The estate boasts a 12-mile Nature Walk that will take you through different types of habitats and species that you may come across. There is also an Owl & Nightjar Trail and a Birdwatching Station. Raptor’s View is a residential wildlife estate on the edge of Hoedspruit – a little town between Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon. Hoedspruit is a nice town in the North-Eastern part of South Africa. It is a town that has a variety of attractions and activities that one can enjoy. Some of these include hiking, bird watching, canoeing and cycling. It’s popular as a safari destination and has a lot to offer its visitors Accommodation at its best, situated in Hoedspruit the estate offers a unique life-style where residents live and share the common ground with the animals which occur naturally in this bushveld environment. With over 1000 ha stocked with a large variety of plains game, one is able to explore the estate on foot or bicycle safely. This former cattle farm turned estate, pulls a strong focus on wildlife conservation, carbon footprints and other environmentally conscious thinking in its development. The low density estate is a themed development with thatched roofs and natural outside wall colours – making it an aesthetically pleasing environment. The one hectare plots are separated by game tracks and natural woodland giving owners both privacy and tranquility. Raptors View Wildlife Estate is a secure and peaceful environment where you can expect to see animals such as nyala, kudu, giraffe, waterbuck, wildebeest, impala, duiker and zebra. With beautiful and diverse fauna and flora and hundreds of bird species. Be assured that there will always be some wonderful creature of nature, big or small that will delight you. The meaning of Housing Estate changes from place to place. In Hoedspruit a Wildlife Estate means owning either a 5,000m² or 10 000m² (half a Hectare or 1 Hectare) stand on which you can build a thatched house or lodge as it’s referred to, with predetermined architectural guidelines. Each house is surrounded by bushveld and most houses do not have gardens (although, indigenous plants are permitted). There are no fences or walls around the properties allowing game to move freely between the properties. It’s not uncommon for animals such as Nyala, Porcupine or Warthog to make themselves resident around your home. One of the biggest perks to living on a wildlife estate is that you have usage of the farm and facilities. This includes facilities such as cycling trails, hiking trails, picnic spots, game drive areas through to restaurant, gym, horse stables and sports facilities. In most estates this portion of the property common is for the pleasure of home owners. What makes a wildlife estate special, is that it gives owners the freedom to enjoy the bush beyond just the one hectare of ownership. With the growth of wildlife estates, there has been a move away from traditional farming such as cattle and agriculture, towards properties that will in future be protected as conservation areas. This has meant game numbers in the area have increased and wildlife estates allow safe areas for these animals to live. As Raptors View is located near the town of Hoedspruit , you can still have a peaceful bush lifestyle, filled with urban amenities and services, such as shopping centers, restaurants, medical centers, spas and retail shops. The R40 and R527 highways interlink directly in Hoedspruit, giving you easy access to other towns and major national routes. The Hoedspruit area is one of the best places to take animal sighting tours in South Africa. The rich habitat and vegetation attracts many different species of animals, which you can find by booking a safari tour or by staying at one of the lodges in the area.
